Pay Per Call
When it comes to monetizing web site traffic there are many ways to do that, and many ways to think about it. One way to think about it is it can be broken down into two categories; passive and non-passive. Passive monetization would be for monetization vehicles such as Adsense, Banners, Impression based ad campaigns and directory listings. Basically you don’t have any direct interaction with end users, your essentially peddling traffic.
For non-passive monetization you’re attempting to get the visitor to perform some sort of “action” while they are on your site. This could be in the form of purchasing something or from completing a form that generates a lead for someone else. In each of these two instances you have two possible “contact methods”.
One is for the visitors to complete a form. In the case of a purchase they enter what they want and pay for it with a credit card, and for lead generation that means completing a form. This “form completion” has been one of the bed rocks of web site monetization. However there has been a growing trend of offering a phone number for the person to call that essentially provides some human interaction in the completion of the form. The person answering the call could be the “store” itself or could simply be a call center that has had some basic training on the products and purchasing procedure. This is more prevalent for sites that “sell’ something but is growing in popularity for lead generation sites; web sites that collect information on a person interested in a particular good or service.
Offering multiple ways for your visitors to perform the action that allows you to convert that visitor into a lead is showing good promise. A form placed on a web site does not appeal to all individuals. Some people just like to have a “real” person to connect with when buying, or expressing interest in buying. Implementing both methods allows you to meet the interests of more of your visitors.
